However, I think it's silly to give your hack "Tactician Hell" it's own category (you even go so far as to have the hack and category share names). Your hack could easily go under Challenge hacks, being the extreme challenge. Pizzas of Doom is the only other example you came up for the "Tactician Hell" category, this could also be classified as a challenge hack. I really don't see a reason for this category, they're just extremely challenging challenge hacks. I actually came up with the category name before I made the hack itself. Right afterwards, I was like "Well, Pizzas of d00m is no longer a Tactician Hell hack, which means nothing fits this category... Might as well fill in the blank" and that's how the hack, Tactician Hell was born. Although it's true that Tactician Hell hacks are basically challenge hacks but with more extreme difficulty, I wanted to separate them mainly cause the intentions of a challenge hack and a tactician hell hack are different. One's meant to make a game more challenging and thus, more fun for experienced players, whereas Tactician Hell hacks are made to be utterly ridiculous in their difficulty, and make people get really pissed off, or laugh at the absurd difficulty. In other words, Tactician hell hacks are a satire of challenge hacks. However, I will not ignore your words. If other people feel that Tactician hell shouldn't be it's own category, or feel it should be a sub category, let me know and I'll change it. Update: Real War Chronicles was posted on the project showcase board. The Fire Emblem Hack Types page now links to it. Pizzas of D00m is no longer listed. I would definitely not call Kaizo a mere "challenge hack".
That said it wouldn't bother me either way. Tactician Hell is a really FE oriented name though. Just because these are all FE hacks doesn't mean you can't use a more community wide label. |

I mean, FE is an RPG and Mario is a platforming game. Of course FE hacks are more likely to have graphical changes than Mario hacks, blah blah blah.
I forgot what I was going to be talking about, so I'll leave it at that. |

I honestly think that one hack doesn't constitute a category. I don't think there will be very many hacks which will fit into the "Tactician Hell" category, it would be better off being in the Challenge Hacks category with the extremity of the difficulty well noted. However, I'll see how things play out.
In other news I got bored today and started messing around with my Fire Emblem Hack Directory that I intended to post a while ago. I've always had categories on the directory but today I updated it to use your far better system (with Tactician Hell being labeled as a Challenge hack, this would be changed if I published this with the category remaining in-place). http://www.feuniverse.net/arch/hackdirectory.html |

Alright >.< I'll remove the category. It does seem a bit unnecessary. I'll also add translation as a category. I didn't think of it until I saw your list. Also, something for you to fix: Tactician Hell isn't a complete hack yet. |

Didn't think it was complete. Some of the progress statements on that page are probably in need of updating. The Tactician Hell one was just a brain fart.
I also think Vanilla hacks could still count as Vanilla hacks with mug changes. More intense graphics changes (like custom battle templates, tilesets, statsheets, etc.) would classify it as being a Reskin hack (if little other changes are made). I might actually post that directory someday (like officially and not just because I'm showing an implementation of your categories). Could you help me categorize the two that weren't categorized? FE4 Binary and the FE1DS Sync Patch. The Sync Patch (which I made) I'm not sure of. It changes growths, weapons stats and small stuff like that and also adds two new reclassing options for females. However, it also has quite a few graphics changes like imported two class animations from FE3DS, the FE3DS battle backgrounds and map sprites. What would you classify that as? The game is largely FE1DS, I just made a few additions and changes. FE4 Binary I'm thinking Chocolate, however it has very few minor graphical changes. |

Both have very subtle changes. I was thinking of calling FE1DS a chocolate hack, but then again, it doesn't change map design and whatnot, which is mandatory for chocolate hacks, yet at the same time, it uses ASM hacking and makes a few graphical and class changes here and there. It can't be called a gimmick hack either because well... it's clearly not meant to introduce a gimmick that greatly changes the game experience. If anything, I'd call it either "Other" or a "Minor" hack. Other because it can't be classified with the others, or Minor because the changes are minor. As for FE4 Binary, the same thing could be said. EDIT: Call 'em "Tweaks" This post has been edited by MarkyJoe1990: Jul 28 2010, 11:26 PM |

Excellent. The directory has been updated.
Also, I was looking at your webpage and I think I've discovered why Norton goes funky when one tries to open it. You have a hits counter javascript in the html file, that would be the most likely cause. EDIT: Well, that was resolved anyways. Nevermind, should've kept reading. EDIT 2: This just popped up in my head. Are you intending on making "Tweaks" another category? |

QUOTE A hack that translates the game from it's original language. "Its", not "it's". Also, I thought we were using universal category names instead of stupid FE based names? That would mean that if there is something equivalent to what the Tactician Hell category was, then a category with the more universal name would be appropriate, and TH could well fit in there. But of course, I wasn't even aware of a lot of these names until recently. To me everything was just "a hack", "a utility hack", or "a translation hack". So no help from me in keeping up with the latest slang. |

Say, where the hell should this be moved to? It has a documentation-y feel but it's clearly related to the project showcase, and I think I put the patch directory Arch made there.

I honestly have no clue. My best suggestion would be Rom Hacking resources since it's a document, or some place where people would most easily find it if they were looking for this kind of thing.
